Storytellers Host Event, Oxford, MI

"I want the Oxford community, as well as Ole Miss students, to realize the impact of storytelling," Rebecca Jernigan, a member of the North Mississippi Storytellers Guild, said.
The event is for all ages, and teenagers and adults can enjoy it as much as children can, she said.
The storytelling will include storytellers Tricia Wilkerson, Victoria Stewart, Anne Klingen and other guest storytellers.
Live music will also be provided by John Schuster, Adrian Baron Robbins and Maryamne Young.
The North Mississippi Storytellers Guild has approximately 10 members and meets monthly to share new and old stories and to have a good time doing something they enjoy.
In addition to meeting monthly, the guild is also responsible for storytelling attractions throughout the year. In October, the guild hosts a pumpkin patch storytelling event, where families can come to the pumpkin patch at St. Peter's and listen to ghost stories.
In the spring, St. Peter's hosts an event at the Double Decker festival, where several different storytellers from all over the country and the world come to share their stories.
The guild stresses that people of all religions and backgrounds are welcome.
"I would like to make the storytelling guild more international - to listen to different experiences and to embrace those differences," Jernigan said.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Admission is free, but guests are asked to donate nonperishable goods to the Oxford-Lafayette Pantry.
Tonight St. Peter's Episcopalian Church is hosting "Winter Lights," a storytelling event that is open to the public.
